New personal best for our Yr 12 student in the Ulster Schools Athletics final

All eyes were on the Antrim Forum Athletics track on Saturday 21st May. Here the stars of the future stood on the line to compete in the schools Ulster Final. St. Mary's was once again represented in the 800 meters and 1500 meters by a Yr 12 student. She has been showing great form in the past few weeks and won her district to qualify for the prestigious Ulster Final. The start line was full of talent and potential and she knew a good start would leave her in a good position in the final lap. From the gun the pace was lighting quick, with all athletes showing clean heals. Her tactics worked well this time as she had plenty left in the tank on the final lap and pushed it on a bit. In a quick turn of pace she rounded a few athletes as the line approached. She finished in 2nd place and could not believe that in the process she had also picked up a new Personal Best. She knocked 5 seconds off her previous personal best finishing in a nippy time of 2 minutes 17 seconds.

Up next was the 1500 and she didn't show any signs of fatigue from the earlier race. Once again she sat in with the pack and looked comfortable and in control throughout. The same tactics worked as she once again showed a quick turn of pace to once again finish on the podium in 2nd place.

What's up next ?

Next up she will go on to represent us in the All Ireland athletics final. All of her training will continue as she goes to compete with the best Athletes in the country. We are very proud that all of her hard work in the gym and on the road is paying off. No doubt she will represent the School, County and Provence with distinction as she always does. Well done!!
