Schools come together from across the cultural divide

Students from all the Post Primary schools in Downpatrick (Blackwater Integrated, De La Salle High, Down High, St. Patrick’s and St Mary’s High) joined those from Nendrum College Comber in the Down Cathedral on 22nd March to celebrate “All as one in Christ”

Members of clergy from Church of Ireland, Non-subscribing Presbyterian, Methodist and Catholic Churches came together to share in the delivery of the service.

Dean Hull welcomed students, staff, parents and members of the Governing bodies to the Cathedral.

All of these schools run Shared Education Programmes whereby students have the opportunity to work in each other’s schools, with those from a different cultural background.

They learn about the importance of mutual respect, building tolerance and acceptance of difference. This supports our young people to be able to engage constructively in society and helps them to understand we have much in common with those from other communities.
