Year 8 Gaming Arcade Success

Recently Miss Curran and her Year 8 coding class created new games using Kodu software and what an activity this turned out to be! On Monday 19th October Room 22 was converted into a gaming arcade.  This gave others student the chance to learn about Kodu and also to evaluate the Year 8 games that had been produce.

Kodu lets students create games on the PC and Xbox via a simple visual programming language. It can be used to teach creativity, problem solving, storytelling, as well as programming. Anyone can use Kodu to make a game, children as well as adults, with no design or programming skills.

The BBC have recently given Kodu new programming tiles that allow interaction with the BBC micro:bit. With these new tiles, users can control character movement using the accelerometer, jump and shoot with a button press, display animations and scrolling text on the screen, interface with other devices through the IO pins, and much more.

Miss Curran is extremely proud of her students and hopes that her Year 8 students continue to develop their programming skills.  Well done girls!
